I’m Aleina.
I married my high school sweetheart and still think he’s pretty amazing 10 years later. :)
We have two beautiful kids – a busy 4 year old boy and a baby girl who will be 1 in May. They fill my heart in ways I could never have imagined.
My other dream job is to be a midwife. I love everything about pregnancy and birth and newborns.
Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My dad is an incredible photographer who taught me early that there is beauty everywhere. He can turn a drop of oil in a wet parking lot into an amazing piece of art. As a kid, I was constantly being directed into spots of perfect light that we would stumble upon in ordinary places. Photography was a given in our family, and I can’t even remember a time when I did not have access to a camera!
The first wedding I ever photographed was with my beanie babies (remember those?). But it wasn’t until searching for my own wedding photographer that I first fell in love with the idea of making it my career. I will admit, I don’t always see the art in unexpected places the way my dad can. But I do see it in people. I see art in the newness and potential of a fresh, new baby. I see it in the laughter of children. I see it in the connections of family members across generations. I see it in those in-between moments, after the perfectly posed, everyone-looking-at-the-camera shots, when the real people come through. I see art in everyone.
the story about a little bird…
In January of 2009, I had to say goodbye to my first baby halfway through my pregnancy. Her name was Layla Wren. Among so many other things, her little life showed me how fleeting each moment is and how truly lucky we are to have the ability to freeze time in the form of photographs. The photos I have of her are among my most treasured possessions. She is part of everything I do, and I knew from the moment I decided to start this little business of mine that there would be a little bird in my logo. :)
