Becky’s senior portrait session on the beach in Lincoln City

Becky came all the way from Central Oregon to have her senior portraits on the beach!  Of course it stormed like crazy the week before our session, and I was so nervous about the weather.  As it turned out, we got a perfectly dry morning with just a hint of sun–perfect morning light!  And, she was so brave, she even laid down in the sand for me.  Overall, she made my job really easy…just look at how gorgeous she is!

Sometimes everything falls together to create one perfect photo shoot.  That was definitely the case with this session.  Beautiful weather, beautiful light, beautiful location, and of course, beautiful people! I will admit, I was nervous at first when she mentioned that they had a great location, but we would have to climb a sand dune first! I’m so glad I agreed though, as it turned out to be one of my favorite locations to date.  We started shooting on top of a bunch of huge rocks over the ocean and made our way back down to the beach as the sun set.  It was an amazing night all around.  I can’t wait to meet their baby girl!

Once again, I am way behind on blogging sessions.  This mother daughter pair was so much fun.  We spent the evening on the beach, which happened to be really foggy and cold, but it still made for awesome natural light! I have to say, one of the best parts of being a family photographer is being able to capture the many different definitions of family.  I love it.  These two are the cutest pair!

When I first scheduled this session with the J family, it didn’t take long for us to realize that we actually lived next door to each other!  They were getting the whole family together for a reunion and wanted to do some updated family portraits.  I was happy to help, and we lucked out with an awesome softly-lit, overcast morning on the beach.  They did such an excellent job coordinating their outfits and had so many fun ideas for different poses.  I easily filled one of my memory cards and part of another before we finished.  But this session resulted in more than just a ton of fun pictures for me.  As I went through editing them, I would zoom in to check focus, etc. and was blown away to witness the love in what seemed, on the surface, to be an ordinary look between family members.  THAT, for me, is what this is all about.  I can easily get caught up in worrying about the technical details–the exposure, the light, the composition, etc. etc.  But it is the moment, the love between families, the laughter, and just…real life, that is my ultimate goal. I feel honored to be allowed to capture all of that through my lens.

A(nother) big thank you to the J family for sharing your beautiful family with me!
